TruthAction Power Cards
From SPARK
One-sentence summary
Two 8.5x5.55 cards to kelp kids choose God's Truth.
Description
TruthAction Ministries has developed two Power Cards. They help children learn the difference between how the secular world encourages us to believe lies and how the Bible teaches the truth.
One Power Card tells the story of Adam's sin and God's forgiveness. This card has eight hand-drawn colored pictures. God's plan for all people is explained. The card contains a prayer to help children believe in Jesus.
The other card tells about lies that children believe because of their culture. The truth from the Bible explains why these lies are wrong. It helps children to replace untruthful thoughts in their minds with the truth.
The back of this card shows New Testament verses. These help children believe three special truths:
- Jesus loves me.
- Jesus takes care of me.
- Jesus made me special.
The goal is to develop Power Cards for minority groups. These would be for oral cultures without a written language. These cards help children (and adults) learn the truth. The cards can be used with groups that do not have a complete Bible or New Testament.
The authors want to work with separate language groups. They would use translations that explain the beliefs that keep those groups from believing in Jesus.
Considerations
- The authors want to make the cards appropriate for each people group.
- They want the drawings to be appropriate for each people group. This will make them culturally appropriate. For example:
- sleeping in hammocks
- people who represent the ethnic characteristics of the group
- use of colors that are culturally appropriate
- Each card is 8.5" x 5.55" with colored drawings on both sides. They are printed on coated poster board. This makes them longer-lasting.
- The authors may print some on water-proof, tear-resistant paper for use in humid climates.
- Each card is brief with a simple message which would make them easy to translate.
- Non-readers have retold the story by using just the pictures. These cards have been used in Honduras, Nigeria, and Taiwan.
- Adults have learned more about the Bible by using these cards.
Limitations
- The authors have said these cards are for oral cultures without a written language. To be of any use translators will need to create a method for writing the language before it will be possible to have even a little bit of written explanation on the cards.
- The authors need to contact believers who speak these minority languages and English. There may not be any bi-lingual speakers.
- The logistics of working with any possible bi-lingual (minority language and English) speakers in order to complete culturally appropriate cards will be difficult to arrange.
- The authors are seeking help in order to make these cards available free to minority languages. However this work is not well known.
Guidelines for Use
- Use in schools, Sunday schools, and Bible clubs.
