While helping establish a mission church in Chihuahua, I was surprised to hear in the "believers" testimonies every thing BUT comments about the finished work of Jesus in their behalf. They said, "I stopped drinking. I quit going to dances. I repented of my sin. I started reading my Bible." and many more, but no one mentioned the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as THEIR Lamb of God to take away their sin.

As I taught through the Firm Foundation's material we arrived at the lesson where John addressed Jeusus as "The Lamb of God that TAKES AWAY the sin of the world (emphasis mine). We reviewed both the concept of the substitutionary lamb from the passover story. We then talked about the comments they had made to me about their salvation, and I challenged them... "why didn't any of you talk to me about a lamb that died and took the punishment for your sins?" At that point one lady had tears in her eyes and later prayed and thanked God for being HER lamb. I think it was the first time she trully understood the gospel.
