Brief Summary

Luke video can be a bridge to literacy

Quechua broadcasters meet for workshop

"...video is a wonderful tool in the translation checking process."

Introduction

Videos sparked motivation to read.

  • We were aware of the need to boost interest in the vernacular.
  • Many in the community were using the national trade language.
  • The literacy rate was low along with their motivation to read.
  • We thought a video might spark motivation to read.

Key Factors

What Was Done

  1. We requested help to dub the translated scriptures on to video.
  2. Recording specialists helped us with the technical part of the recording and the production process that followed.
  3. During the recording process, we discovered that the actors or speakers wanted to use a few different terms in the recording. The recording process was somewhat like a consultant checking session.

Results

The video gave great confidence in assuring people that their language could be read. It really sparked a motivation to literacy. Men stopped their normal work routine so they could purchase a New Testament and get started in reading.

Using video production as a translation checking tool

If we had produced the video prior to the printing of the New Testament, we could have made some nice fine tuning translation adjustments. ... As a consultant I feel the video is a wonderful tool in the translation checking process.
