One-sentence summary

The well-known English allegory in modern-day language.

Description

In 1964, James H. Thomas rewrote Paul Bunyan's well-known Christian allegory Pilgrim's Progress. He wrote it in modern American English. This makes it more readable. Some unimportant details of the story have been deleted, but the original message is the same. Names of some people have been changed. Two or three new people have been added to the story.

Both parts of the story tell the progress of the pilgrims as they travel toward the Celestial City (Heaven). In part one, Christian leaves his home in the City of Destruction. He begins a long journey to the Celestial City. He has many adventures while traveling. He meets people named Faithful, Hopeful, Ignorance, and others. He travels through places such as Vanity Fair and the Valley of the Shadow of Death. He finally enters Heaven (the Celestial City). He learns to trust God to lead him during the journey. In part two, Christian's wife, Christina, goes to the Celestial City to join her husband. As she travels, Christina meets people named Greatheart, Mercy, Honesty, and others. Her story shows how all Christians make a spiritual journey toward Heaven and eternity with Jesus.
