Ownership comes easy for Nafana.

Introduction

In the early 1970’s a work was begun among the Nafana people of Ghana, West Africa. They soon became interested in literacy. Teenagers from the local Nafana church helped test a new primer series. The people had the Gospel of Mark in a triglot format (Nafaanra, Twi [trade language], and English [national language]). Now they needed to learn to read it.

What Was Done

A primer series was completed and printed. A national teacher, taught and mentored the class. He succeeded in teaching the literacy program.

Results

This program was still in use even after 25 years. All classes have been taught by nationals.
