A Scottish missionary named Ian dared to pray in the presence of non-believers. He asked God for removal of a gigantic tree blocking his path down the mountain. His prayer was answered in a unique way by an elephant.
This true story tells of the power of prayer in Thailand. The book was written for children between the ages of five and ten years. As an audio book or flash card story, it would also interest younger children. Any of these forms would be useful for pastors, Sunday children’s workers and teachers. The book has 32 pages and is divided into three parts. There is a black and white drawing that illustrates the story on every other page.
Considerations
- This story would not require much visual understanding. The drawings follow the simple story very well.
- The drawings and setting show rural life in Thailand as it really is.
- Some of the black and white illustrations are just of the upper half of people. This may require an explanation in language groups that are not familiar with pictures.
- For people groups that are unfamiliar with vehicles and movie cameras, that illustration will need an explanation.
- Sound effects and flash cards would add interest if an audio book is made of this story.
