One-sentence summary

The Genesis video follows the story of Genesis chronologically.

Description

The video is divided into 18 sections of 15 to 20 minutes each for a total length of 5 hours and 20 minutes.

Considerations

The 18-episode format makes it a flexible tool. The short episodes are ideal for Bible teaching, discussion groups, and evangelism. After an episode has been viewed, a teacher/leader can interact with the audience by asking questions, leading a discussion about the episode, and answering questions from the audience.

Filmed in Israel, the Genesis video can also be used to teach historical information about life in Bible times.

An audio-only version can be made by inserting “audio bridges” that provide information from the visuals in the video. This program can then be economically reproduced and distributed on audio-cassette, CD, or radio as a supplement to the video. This can reemphasize the message, increase distribution, be used for literacy classes, Bible studies, discipleship, etc.

The translator and some others from the language community should view and evaluate the video. This will identify scenes or cultural issues that might distract from the message. The Media Observation Form and the Video Review Form are helpful in doing this.

Some questions to consider about a video:

  • Has this people group seen moving pictures or videos?
  • How will video be perceived?
  • Will it be understood as a representation of reality or make believe?
  • How will information that is not expressly described in Scripture be perceived?
  • Will the background music and sound effects distract from the message?

The video contains a Hebrew and Aramaic voice track combined with the music and effects track. This track cannot be removed. However, the volume level can be lowered so it does not conflict with the vernacular language.

Limitations

  • The sections containing Genesis chapters 1-11 combine several types of visuals that may not be suitable/understandable for some audiences. All other sections use live acting which have been well received by many audiences.
  • The music and effects cannot be changed or replaced.
