Emerging Media
From SPARK
Newer forms of appropriate vernacular media are becoming available in certain parts of the world. The following are some suggestions of how to take advantage of newer media possibilities:
Sychronized Audio-text
In some cultures, MP3 players and cell phones are becoming widely available. Downloading music to cell phones is becoming more popular than downloading music to computers. Both cell phones and computers allow synchronization of audio and text. This would allow users to hear the Scriptures, while reading the text on the screen.
You Tube
Another possibility in more sophisicated cultures is the use of home videos. With the popularity of consumer camcorders is the possibility of recording local dramas or music, and making them available via the Internet. There are a number of sites, like You Tube, that allow people to upload videos and make them available for wider audiences. One caution here is to get permission from the people appearing in the videos. This avoids possible copyright issues.
