One-sentence summary

Chronological series of colorful Bible stories in flash card format.

Description

The Covenant Road is the first of four books of chronological Bible lessons in the Journey Through the Bible series. It was written for children ages 2-7 but could also be used with older children in some language situations.

These colorful Bible stories are presented in hold-up story format. The story script is on one side and the picture is on the opposite page. This means the children can see the picture while the story teller sees the script.

  • Lesson 1: And God Said…(Creation)
  • Lesson 2: Just One Little Bite? (The Fall)
  • Lesson 3: A Big Flood (Noah and the Ark)
  • Lesson 4: The Father of Many Nations (Abraham)
  • Lesson 5: A Child of Promise (Isaac)
  • Lesson 6: What a Dream! (Jacob)
  • Lesson 7: Brother Trouble (Joseph)
  • Lesson 8: Who Will Deliver Us? (Joseph)
  • Lesson 9: We Want More! (The Israelites In the Wilderness)
  • Lesson 10: What Big Walls! (Joshua)
  • Lesson 11: Mighty Warrior (Gideon)
  • Lesson 12: Look At His Muscles! (Samson)
  • Lesson 13: Here Comes the Bride (Ruth)

The final pages of the book show how to make memory verse cards. An example of the cards is provided and may be reproduced. The Bible verses are taken from the English NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (NIV).

The book has 139 pages of teaching material. A theme song (with music) for all of the lessons is at the beginning of the book. Each lesson includes a Scripture song that refers to the lesson. A music CD is included with the book. A group of children sing the theme song and the song for each lesson. A piano accompaniment only section is also included.

Each lesson has an idea page for acting out the lesson. These are very simple. Some may need to be adapted for cultures that do not have the needed props.

Considerations

  • In the colored pictures that are with the lessons, the faces of the people are blank circles. This could be a problem for some children who are concerned about faceless people. If so, the teacher can draw in the missing faces.
  • Clothing is not typical of what was worn in Bible times. It is symbolic clothing without any details.
  • Many children will need explanation for the idea balloon that some of the pictures have. The symbolism may be hard for them to understand.
  • The suggested crafts with each lesson may not be available or useful in some cultures.
  • The music CD may or may not be culturally appropriate for some language groups.
