Introduction

In a monolingual language group in a remote mountainous region of eastern X a group of mother tongue entrepreneurs were taught to operate small trade businesses.

What was done

The training was done totally in the vernacular language. This involved using written materials, dramatization, hands-on use of new technologies (calculators, scales, record keeping, flow-charts etc), and training on the job.

The training lasted for one week. It took place in a central location and was repeated twice during a given year for the same learners. Materials were collected by the trainer. Each participant had to purchase the equipment needed for the work after the training session. They also provided whatever they needed in their own locations to operate their small trade business.
