Description
Beginning with the Bible consists of two books. Each book has 84 pages. Each lesson is one page but has additional pages of activities. These activities may be copied and given to each child to complete. There is also help for the teacher with a complete teaching plan, prayer, and suggested visual aid for every lesson.

The New Testament book includes 29 weeks of teaching. It contains five lessons about the Christmas story. It contains 15 lessons about the life and teaching of Jesus. The stories are taken mainly from Luke’s gospel. It contains seven stories about the early church taken from the Acts of the Apostles. There are two other lessons from Luke about Easter.
These lessons were written for children between the ages of 2-1/2 years to 4 years, but would also be suitable for older children who have short attention spans.
This curriculum helps give basic teaching about God that will help children develop a relationship with Him. It will help them grow into Christian maturity.
Considerations
- Words used in the lessons are simple. The sentences are short.
- Pictures used in the lessons are big, clearly drawn and uncluttered.
- Many of the simple crafts (if used) need to be prepared in advance.
- Lessons are written for short attention spans of from 3-5 minutes.
- Each lesson is set out in the same way.
- The title is followed by the aim of the lesson.
- Teacher preparation gives the Bible focus for the lesson.
- The drawings showing Adam and Eve in the garden are black line drawings on white paper with no body details. This might still cause problems in some cultures.
Limitations
- The Bible story is written out in suitable language as a guide only.
- The Bible story should not be read to the children, it should be told orally.
- Each lesson ends with a prayer.
- At the back of the books are details of how to make some of the suggested visual aids.
- Pictures from a child’s story Bible would be useful as visual aids.
- Each lesson is on one page. Some lessons include craft printouts.
- Scripture references are from the Good News Bible.
- Some lesson crafts may need appropriate changes that relate to and reflect conditions of a specific language group.
