Introduction

We were asked to restore damaged reel to reel tapes that contained Bolivian language material.

What was done

We put the tape reels in a turkey oven and baked them for 4 hours at 125 degrees.

Results

  • The oxide coating was restored to the base so the tapes passed through the recorder without leaving the oxide on the heads.
  • We were able to test the tapes in a number of language communities.
