Agutaynen Flannelgraph Stories
From SPARK
Brief Summary
"I would do this again if...especially if I had small children."
Introduction
Flannelgraph stories were of high interest in this rural, lowland Filipino community with many young children.
Key Factors
What Was Done
My own children, ages 6-10, could quickly and easily gather 30 other kids for an impromptu outside gathering. I hung the flannel board on an outside “utility house” while the children gathered and sat on the ground. I read the Child Evangelism Fellowship flannelgraph stories ahead of time, and told them in Agutaynen while placing the cutouts on the board. Story time was preceded by vernacular songs and a Bible memory verse. Children were very attentive.
Results
Days later I would hear neighbor kids singing the songs. The next week when I told another story I would ask them about the verse from the week before. Some would still remember it. I would do this again if I still lived in New Agutaya, and especially if I had small children.
