One-sentence summary
Four Bible lessons designed to prepare children for Easter.
Description
These Bible lessons are from Matthew. They are about the last week of Jesus's earthly ministry and death. The focus is the fact that Jesus is our example of servanthood and self-denial for the benefit of others. Though he died for our sins, Jesus is risen from the dead and alive today. Children understand that we have a message of hope to proclaim.
- Betrayal
- Death
- Resurrection of Jesus.
The stories are pictured on flipchart. These are the full page color pictures at the end of each story. The story and picture are on facing pages so as the picture is held up for the children to see, the teacher can read the story.
- Week 1: Servanthood; Meekness
- Week 2: Proper Worship in God's House; Heartfelt Conviction For Sin
- Week 3: The Betrayal of Jesus; Others Compromise
- Week 4: Dying Alone; Victory Over Sin and Death
Each lesson has a craft for the students to make. Those crafts are as follows:
- Servant coupons
- How majestic stained glass
- Lamb of God bookmark
- Resurrection color page
Memory Verse cards are provided.
- Lesson 1: Matthew 20:26b and 28
- Lesson 2: Psalm 8: 1-2a
- Lesson 3: Isaiah 53:4-5
- Lesson 4: I Corinthians 15: 3-4a
Considerations
- Each lesson has three story sections.
- In the colored pictures that accompany the lessons, the faces of the people are blank circles. This may be a problem with some children who will be concerned with faceless people. If it is a problem the teacher might draw in the missing faces.
- Clothing is not typical of what was worn in Bible times. It is simple clothing without any details.
- Many children will need explanation for the idea balloon that some of the pictures have. The symbolism may be hard for them to understand.
- The suggested crafts with each lesson may not be useful since some of the materials may not be available or culturally appropriate.
- The music CD may not be culturally appropriate for some language groups.
